Scholastic Packs

Malletech is elevating the student experience with two Scholastic Packs that provide students with the exact same tools used by the pros. Each Pack includes a high quality bag and an assortment of world-class implements. These are not disposable ‘entry-level products’, but the start of a collection of professional mallets.

MTech Series

There is nothing “entry level” about these beautifully sounding (and looking) models except the price. Malletech put more than 35 years of mallet making experience into these designs, and it’s evident in their rich sound, perfectly-balanced weight and long-lasting quality. With three different hardnesses, the Mtech mallet series is a great option for students at the start of their percussion careers, as well as indoor applications for high school and college ensembles. For many students, they may be all you need.

Late Nite Series

Malletech announces the Late Nite Series (low volume practice mallets), developed jointly by Tony Miceli and Leigh Howard Stevens.  These are mallets designed specifically for practice in apartments, dorms and off stage, where you need to play quietly but still want to dig in on the instrument. Imagine living in an apartment and being able to practice at midnight, with normal strokes, and not get evicted!  After the first couple of minutes, you’ll wonder how you survived all these years without having a set or two of these in your mallet bag.

There are two models on rattan handles and two on full-length birch.  Tony uses both rattan models and Leigh uses both birch models. LN1s are loosely wrapped with a softer, loftier yarn than LN2s, so they are even quieter.  They can slur like an Albright vibes or Stevens marimba model.  You can hear your notes and dynamics, but “they” can’t…

LN2s are snugly wound with 100% nylon yarn. They are articulate, but nearly silent.  If you like “normal” tight-wrap vibe mallets, these are for you.  If you are a marimba player who likes mallets that are articulate and “clean” at low dynamic levels, these are for you.

Field Sticks

Snare drum sticks that are designed and sized for every hand in your snare drum line. The FS1 and FS2 models feature the same profile with different diameters to suit the drummer’s personal preference. Finished in a great feeling, white, semi-gloss lacquer.

New Orchestral Series ™

In the 1980s professional percussionists from the two major New York City orchestras listened to almost 40 different head types.  Four 1-1/8 models, OR39 (brown), OR42 (tan), OR45 (white) and OR48 (black) were selected as having the most frequent application to the major orchestral keyboard parts of the late 19th and 20th centuries. They are still found in the mallet bags of many professional percussionists.

Today there is a demand for models targeted for very specific excerpts, as well as a movement toward lighter, smaller heads for certain applications.  There is no greater expert on orchestral keyboard repertoire than William James, principal percussionist of the St. Louis Symphony. Will has expanded the original OR line into a vast selection of sounds and tone colors, with many different materials, weights, sizes and handle types. Malletech makes history again with three different levels of fiberglass handle flexibility on the Mini-Glock models:  Black, Red and White – expertly paired to the weight of the mallet head.

eMotion Marimba Mallets

Yarn
The computer-wound marimba and vibe models use a newly developed, custom-made, high-tech yarn that will give you longer service with better sound than anything you have used before.

Same Weight, Safe Weight
Malletech’s revolutionary design and construction produce a full line of marimba and vibe mallets that have the same wieght and feel throughout the whole line. Graduated or mixed sets feel natural and comfortable and there is virtually no adjustment in technique needed when switching from xtra-soft to xtra-hard. We’re right in the pocket between the “can’t play accurately/ridiculously heavy” and the “just need a little more weight/oomph” models.

Multi-Toned & “OT”
Most hard “marching mallets” can’t play sweet & the sweet ones can’t play mean & loud. Our mallets have a much more complex construction and therefore produce a much richer tone and varied response to your touch. Harder models include our “Overdrive Technology” … when you need extra volume, these mallets step up to the plate and hit a home run for you.

Double Color-Coded
You can put your mallets in the bag handles or heads first and still see the color coding for quick changes. Both the heads and handle tips are color-coded.

Grips
“Use them or lose them.” The grips can be used by those players who like to hold on to a bigger diameter padded handle, or those who want a “click-free” covering for cross-stick grips.

eMotion Timpani Mallets

Originally designed for the defunct Essential Series, these three models of timpani mallets have found a new home in the eMotion line. American felt heads, hand sewn onto hefty, oak handles provide smooth tones and easy rolls.

eMotion Bell Mallets

Mounted on short rattan handles for control and response, the two plastic heads are perfect for bell passages.

eMotion Xylophone Mallets

The three unwound 1-1/4” diameter xylophone mallet heads are also identically weighted, so for the first time (since the Malletech Natural Rubber Series was introduced in the 1980s!), you have “soft,” medium and hard xylophone heads that are identical in weight and feel!

eMotion Series

Malletech has long been the choice for professional players, but now we’re entering the market for educational and marching percussion sticks and mallets.

Four-time hall-of-famer Dennis DeLucia led a team of top drummers to develop the sticks and bass drum beaters and Leigh Howard Stevens worked with an expert team of front ensemble instructors to develop all the keyboard mallets. The best of two worlds have come together for eMotion.

Let the “e” stand for expression, let it stand for excellence or excitement … once they’re in your hands, you’ll know they are all of that and more.

eMotion Bass mallets

The bass drum handle design has the right amount of flare in just the right spot for a comfortable, controlled grip. The beater heads are constructed from very dense, lathe-cut, 100% wool felt for heightened longevity. All five sizes of heads are glued and screwed to the handle. Of course, all of the handles are finished in a great feeling, white, semi-gloss lacquer.

Natural Rubber Series

The Natural Rubber Series solves the two biggest problems most players have with rubber mallets: weight and tone. After years of research, we were able to find a way to keep the weight of the four models within one-tenth of an ounce of one another, so changing hardnesses does not mean changing weights. The Natural Rubber Series is also very useful on the many small bells, wood blocks and other idiophones of the percussion section.

Jazz Classics Series

Popular with jazz vibe, marimba & chamber music players since 1982. The Jazz Classic models feature a large bronze core which increases mass without affecting hardness. 9 to 9.5 mm rattan.

Albright by Malletech

The famed Albright mallets were originally handmade by Fred Albright (of old drum book fame) and have had a CULT following since the 1950’s. Players could rarely get them because they were only made for “special” customers, and only a couple of times per year. Through the years, many companies have tried to buy or license the “Albright” designs and name. After considering the quality control standards that Malletech has consistently demonstrated, the Albright family licensed the designs to Malletech.

These mallets are unique in construction, sound and response — far more time-consuming to make than any other vibe mallet on the market: multiple types and layers of yarn on the same model; internal and external stitching; heads that contain up to five separate responsive layers. All the materials are identical to the originals. The only thing that has changed are the yarn colors, as well as the number and tension of wraps – which are now strictly controlled by a computer winding machine, and the fact that each pair comes in its own autographed, velveteen drawstring bag. Many of the great icons in the history of the vibraphone used Albright mallets exclusively, although Fred Albright never put artists’ names on their favorite models. Stefon Harris was the first, and now Warren Wolf joins Stefon, while retaining his purple WW12 Go2 series.

Grand Soloist Series

The Grand Soloist Series has been producing big, fat marimba tones since 1990 under a different model name. They all have a rubber core plus an additional layer of latex — in other words, all rubber, all the way through. They are wound medium-tight with an extremely durable proprietary synthetic yarn that produces clear articulation even at pianissimo. They are wound at a steep angle, producing a nearly round shape. Now available in four hardnesses, as well as in graduated sets.

Concerto Series™

The six models of the Concerto Series were designed specifically for players looking for a heavier mallet with a big sound that will project through a large ensemble, but who don’t want the contact noise that’s usually associated with this type of mallet. Compared to standard, traditional mallets of similar hardness, the player will immediately notice proportionally more fundamental tone and greater volume. While many synthetic yarns suffer from high-pitched “tick,” this yarn is very quiet on the attack, while exceeding the durability and abrasion resistance of nylon. Some sets of Concerto mallets made in the 1980s and 1990s are still in use – and still not fraying!

Chamber Series

These redesigned mallets are perfect for chamber music settings in which the performer sometimes needs to project above the other instruments, and at other times, blend in with them. A wide range of tonal colors and articulations can be drawn from the synthetic yarn and winding techniques. The balance between head weight and shaft length produces an unusually good feel. The Chamber Series (a.k.a. “Purple Mallet Series”) attracts attention for both its looks and sound.
