When I first started listening to jazz, I quickly gravitated to the ECM catalogue. The chamber ensembles, the emphasis on space and dynamic, the profound improvisation, it all spoke to me. One of my favorite discoveries during this time was Ralph Towner, so I thought it would be perfect to cover his trademark song Icarus. Joining me here is the esteemed Dave Hagedorn, on the Malletech love vibe. This vibraphone has a pedal that controls both the dampers and the vibrato effect, which is created using sliding plates.
